As TryHackMe’s first addition to the Finance Team, reporting in to the Head of Finance, this Financial Controller role will encompass all things accounting - FinOps, Financial Reporting and Regulatory. Sitting at the heart of the finance team, you will play a vital part in enabling TryHackMe to scale by building lean processes and providing valuable insight.

The Financial Controller role here at TryHackMe suits an individual who thrives on ambiguity, takes time to understand desired outcomes and methodically but relentlessly progresses towards them.

What will you be up to within this role?

• Financial Operations and Process Improvement
  • Manage outsourced core accounting processes including AR, AP [Dext] and payroll [external bureau]
  • Build scalable processes to handle high volume transactions covering “click” (revenue) to “cash” (collections) [Rev Rec tool to be implemented]
  • Own process improvements including decentralised spending (Soldo) and customer invoice automation [Hubspot to Xero]
  • Evolve processes to enable departmental reporting [Xero]
  • Evolve and own basic financial controls
  • Support cross functional process improvements
• Financial Reporting
  • Own month end and key processes such as revenue recognition, deferred revenue and accrued liabilities
  • Own BS reconciliation schedules
  • P&L, BS and Cashflow analysis
  • Support the buildout of monthly standard internal reporting pack
  • Support ad hoc internal and external reporting
• Regulatory
  • Liaise with external consultants and lead annual filings for statutory accounts, corporate tax (including estimated quarterly corporate tax instalments) and R&D claim.
  • Transition quarterly UK and International VAT processes in house
  • Lead 2025 first year audit

Skills & Requirements

• Must-have:
  • Fully qualified - ACA preferred (but ACCA or CIMA is acceptable)
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, ideally across both practice and private with 2+ years PQE. This role particularly suits someone already within a Financial Controller role (~2years) and is looking to push their capabilities at a tech scale-up.
  • A demonstrated foundation of accounting principles and best practices
  • Competent with Excel and light modelling
• Preferred experience:
  • High growth start-up or scale-up experience, with a strong preference for high volume B2C subscription / SAAS
  • Data analytics skills are a plus!
  • Payment processor experience (Paypal/Stripe)
