IT Manager
TryHackMe is looking for an IT Manager to own and scale our internal IT operations across a fully distributed, remote-first workforce.
This is a hands-on role with significant autonomy. You'll own our IT infrastructure, security, systems, tooling and technical support, while leading our team of 3 Technical Support Engineers.
The goal is simple: make it easy for our people to do their best work, while keeping our systems secure, reliable and cost-effective.
We're a fast-growing company and don't believe in adding process for the sake of process. We want someone who can find the fastest, simplest solution, automate where it makes sense and get stuck into the detail when needed.
You'll work across the business, partnering with People, Finance, Security and department leads to make sure our technology scales with us rather than slows us down.
What You'll Own
1. IT Infrastructure & Operations
Own and administer our Google Workspace environment, ensuring system integrity, availability and appropriate access.
Own our internal IT infrastructure and business systems.
Implement and manage a centralised software and licensing management solution.
Own device procurement, lifecycle management and MDM, reducing unnecessary hardware and leasing costs.
Ensure employees have the hardware, software and access they need to be productive from day one.
2. Technical Support Leadership
Lead and manage our 3-person Technical Support team, setting priorities, standards and expectations.
Ensure our team provides fast, high-quality technical support to employees across multiple time zones.
Introduce clear processes for triaging, resolving and escalating technical issues.
Track service performance and identify opportunities to improve the employee experience.
Balance hands-on technical problem solving with effective team leadership.
Build a support function that scales without simply adding more people.
3. Security & Compliance
Own internal IT security practices including SSO, MFA, IAM and access management.
Ensure appropriate controls are in place across our systems, devices and employee accounts.
Partner with our compliance function to support GDPR, ISO 27001, SOC 2 and other relevant standards.
Conduct regular security reviews, access audits and risk assessments.
Ensure joiner, mover and leaver processes maintain a high standard of security.
4. Automation & Efficiency
Automate repetitive IT workflows, particularly onboarding, offboarding, access management and provisioning.
Introduce and own an ITSM/helpdesk solution to manage and triage support requests.
Look for opportunities to use AI and automation to reduce manual IT work.
Improve the speed and quality of internal IT services without adding unnecessary process.
Continuously identify opportunities to reduce SaaS, cloud, hardware and operational costs.
5. Software, Access & Identity Management
Own our SSO and identity management strategy.
Maintain accurate visibility of software licences, users and access.
Regularly audit permissions and remove unnecessary access.
Ensure access is provisioned and removed quickly as people join, move roles or leave.
Work with department owners to ensure systems remain secure and appropriately managed.
6. Business Continuity & Resilience
Own our internal IT disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Ensure appropriate backup and recovery processes are in place.
Identify critical systems and establish appropriate recovery procedures.
Ensure the business can continue operating during significant IT outages or incidents.
7. Vendors & IT Spend
Own relationships with our SaaS, hardware, cloud and IT vendors.
Negotiate contracts and ensure we're getting appropriate value from our technology spend.
Maintain visibility of IT costs and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary expenditure.
Evaluate new technologies and tools based on their ability to genuinely improve how we operate.
What Success Looks Like
✅ IT doesn't get in the way - employees have the systems, hardware and access they need to work effectively.
✅ A high-performing support team - our 3-person Technical Support team resolves issues quickly and provides a consistently excellent employee experience.
✅ Secure by default - SSO, MFA, IAM, MDM and access controls are properly implemented and maintained.
✅ Automation over administration - repetitive IT work is automated wherever possible.
✅ Smart technology spend - we know what we're paying for, why we're paying for it and where we can save.
✅ Fast onboarding and offboarding - new starters are ready to work from day one and access is removed immediately when people leave.
✅ Resilient systems - we know what happens when something breaks and can recover quickly.
This Role Isn't Right If You...
Prefer building complex processes over finding the simplest solution.
Need a large team to feel like you're making an impact.
Don't enjoy being hands-on with technology.
See technical support as a ticket-closing exercise rather than an employee experience.
Aren't comfortable balancing strategic thinking with getting into the detail.
Need lots of direction or approval before making decisions.
Prefer maintaining the status quo over continuously improving how things work.
Don't enjoy working in a fast-moving, remote-first environment.
